High DOP Alert for All-in-View Users Confirmed

High DOP Alert for All-in-View Users Confirmed

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The USCG NavCen has issued a high DOP warning for tomorrow for certain locations in the U.S., Asia, and Oceania, which GPS World reported Wednesday.

GPS World's Innovation editor Richard Langley explains why the warning affects all-in-view users:

"The warning is based on a 'best four' satellite scenario; i.e., what the DOPs would be if we only used the best four s… Continue

Saved by the Robot

Saved by a Robot at the Park

It was a noisy balmy day at the Hudson Riverside State Park. As renovations on an existing road was laid out by my partner and I. A crowded work site as everything in NYC is. However we managed to get in do the work as the ground under our feet shook as the excavation began. We took our Trimble S6 Robot and set it up to begin our layout. My Partner (Veteran Surveyor/Marine Sergeant)took his 16 plus years of experience and laid out the equipment. Only to real… Continue

When Eagles fly

When Eagles fly

A cold Decembrrr morning would find me in the Western NY Hills of Monticello. My partner and I surveying a hillside for a construction crew. Taken by a movement across the big blue sky. A brisk south easterly wind filled the sprawling wing span of a bald eagle moving it directly into our sight path. The eagle climbing higher and higher turned its circles of flight into a hypnotic trance. For a moment we just starred at this pristine natural beauty. Emmm I can still see the white… Continue

Lots of construction, roads and remote airports. Not airports like you are used to. These are usually 1/2 mile strip of gravel with a atco trailer as the terminal. Then there is the Native Alotments (C-14s). You seem to be very knowledgalbe about GPS. I worked for a company called GPS Inc. here and what a joke. Oh they had a chopper, but 1992 Trimble equipment, if we had more than 12 satelites it would shut down. Did not work well in the trees. I have used the R8 with the Ranger, but never got to down load it and deal with the data transfer to AutoCadd. If I lived closer to Anchorage I would take a class, but its 60 miles of deadly dark icy highway at -25.

Yes, I get to see alot of cool stuff and people. We have a guest cabin on our property, it has running water and flush toilet. You and your family are welcome to come and visit. June or July are the best times, good salmon fishing and it doesn't get dark. Lots of work up here too.
