RTK work with the ProMark500 is more enjoyable than what I remember about doing RTK work with a 28 pound backpack in 1996. Times change

Today was about the time it takes for a MobileMapper CX to go from a GPS reset to a DGPS solution.

I am learning how to record D files. It is a diagnostic tool the engineers can use to examine what is happening during the survey work.

I have been experimenting with a ProMark500 that is set up in a difficult environment. I expected some things, like OPUS, would not work.

Recently I have been setting up a base station that transmits RTK corrections via the Internet. It took a while to figure out how to make that work from my computer at home. Once I figured it out it worked very well. The next challenge is to le...

Photo mapping

Last week I did some MobileMapping work with the ProMark3. My legs are not very strong any more but I managed to map 50 fire hydrants in about four hours in my neighborhood. Part of the project was about stopping the job to change batteries and then starting it again. With cold weather coming on battery life will be a problem for a few months. I wanted to make sure I will have good advice for how to manage changing the battery through the day.

Here is a screen shot of the project in MobileMapper Office.

Here is a shot of the project from ArcMap as it looks when plotted over some aerial photos.

Lately I have been working on several photo mapping projects. This is a photo taken while mapping a portion of the new hiking trail at San Luis Creek campground near Gustine, California.

Internet RTK work is challenging

Here is a photo of the new GPS+GLONASS antenna for the ProFlex500.

Now it is about the ProFlex500 and how to set it up as a RTK base station. I was able to record a long static session that let me get an OPUS position for the base. The location is not ideal but OPUS processed the d… Continue

I am not sure how this site is all put together but I know I can insert videos, pics, and promote the "causes" that I hope will help everyone know about Magellan Professional GPS, and more particularly the ProMark3 RTK and Static features and software to get others into GPS who could otherwise not afford GPS as a beginner. I can be of help to show them how to optimize on the features and make $$$ with it without going through as long of learning curve. Thanks to you and others, I am now enjoying the use of it on almost every project. I am hoping that David Lacy will get one so we can team up in the Tulsa area to get more people on the team and help Magellan get a good foothold in the Tulsa Area enough to where we might get into the sales of it locally. With my retail background (See Ski-Unique.com) I think we can all gain by covering all areas of the process between the regional sales person and the final user locally. The knowledge will help me and David build a better system and network that other PM3RTK users can share through the Surveyor's Coop and allow other individual surveyors a "try before your buy" rental and credit toward purchase system locally.
I am going to send you an email directly for the "Rest of the Story".

Fantastic - the advent of blogs that you can upload your pics and videos easily and freely are here and knowing you more personally, I think you will enjoy this form of media better than others. So keep spreading the good news knowing that other surveyors, like me, have your best interests in mind to promote a healthier grown and communication line for surveyors world wide.
